I am trying to work the Vectors: Creating Hollow Objects tutorial by Doro Sensen which was written for v.7. I can get through the first part just fine, with a few adjustments but on the second hollow object (making a 12 pointed star) the vector star that I reverse the path on goes * wacko* - any insights will be appreciated. |

No insights yet Pete. However, once I finish with the photo guides I plan on working with the Vectors Options so maybe then I can shed some light. From recall in using Vectors a while back, it can be done but there are some differences I believe in how to set it up to get those results. But as I said it will be a while before I get to vectors. Sorry.

Pete, I did this tutorial in psp9 last year for part of my slp work. so this evening I have tried it in v10, and with a few false starts, (brain not working properly yet) got it to work. But I am now being nagged by husband Brian to go to bed for my beauty sleep. He is a very good nurse!!! Tomorrow I will give you my steps, and possibly a few screen shots of what my layers looked like in the palette.

Thanks Prof and Tazz. I can follow directions and do some improvising but vectors tend to make me go buggy very quick. |

Here we go Pete. Not perfect yet, I am still finding it hard to concentrate, forgive any mistakes, and wait on Prof for his method. 1 Open an new image, 300 x 300, background white. 2 In colour palette set foreground to black and background to purple (128,0,12 3 I then went to my preset shapes and chose P, preset shape, star 3 ( 6pointed star) 4 I drew the star out from top left to bottom right. 5 Went to objects>align>centre in canvas. 6 In top toolbar I chose edit>copy followed by edit>paste>paste as a new layer. thisgives you a new vector 2 with an exact copy of the star in vector 1, sitting on top of the first star. If you expand both vector 1 and vector 2 your layer palett will look like this 7 Make the vector 2 active and goto image>rotate>freerotate( dirn doesn't matter) type in 30 for the angle and click OK and your layer palette changes to this 8 make the pen tool active and right click on one the nodes on this vector 2 star, choose edit from the menu then choose select all from the dropdown menu. 9 repeat this right click and goto edit>reverse contour. right click again and goto edit>copy. 10 Now make vector 1 active, click on the star layer to show the nodes and right click on one of the star's nodes. Go to edit paste and this is what you should see 11 there is a lot of white showing which we have to take care of. Make vector 2 active and we have to move one of its nodes to cover a node on the other star. I chose one at the top of the image, on the innermost cusp and moved it up and to the left until it lay on top of the matching node on the vector 1 star. 12 Now click on the eye vector 2 to turn it off, and see your final image. Hope this helps Tazz |

To help with step 11, I have made this image This shows the rough position at which you will find the node to be moved (on the left hand image, with the white showing in my original post). using your pen tool, move the one near the pink spot, up and to the left onto the brown spot. Then the white should have been covered. if you still have thin slivers left, it should still look okay when you turnvector 2 off (or delete it) Tazz |

Yes, thanks! I'll give it a try also, once I get the six-pointed star to turn into a hole in the circle. |

Thank you Tazz. I'm back from my weekend off (Wednesday and Thursday) so I'm eager to jump into this. Yippee!
Edited Later: I tried this with my graphic from before [Symmetric Shape - 6 pointed star [H]] and didn't get it to work at all. So I scrapped that and went with your Preset Shape Star and it worked just like you have it detailed. Excellent!
The source of my mistake was using the Symmetric Shape - 6 pointed star instead of the Preset Shape Star. In the first half of the tut when you put the star in the circle it is ok to use the Symmetric Shape there, but once you go to the second part to put one star on the other you must use the preset shape star in order for it to work as written. Tazz, your body may be giving you fits right now but your mind is as sharp as ever! You get a gold star!! |

Well done Pete!! I have read somewhere that the presets tool 'P' is a true vector and the symmetric shapes tools can give trouble, so I always use 'P' if possible. It might be that you have to 'convert to path' for the symmetric shapes. Prof might enlighten when he starts his vector SLP notes. Anyway you can now do the third part of dora's tutorial.....basically the same method. Also you can save your results as preset shapes into your PSP folder. Here is my third part. when I had the image on the white background, I right clicked on the final shape layer, went to properties and changed the 'fill' to a gradient. Then I went to the background layer, chose a colour from the petals and floodfilled the backgroun, then added noise. the body is still weak, can't sit here all day as I used to. But I enjoyed doing this. Tazz http://www.freewebs.com/phenaparn/finalhollowimage.jpg |

That is eye catching Pete!!
I am sure that Doro will be impressed with what you have done with her PSP7 tut. It makes me think of christmas tree ornaments.

That star looks great Pete.
I'm trying to use a trial of pspx2 and I'm having a hard time with the vector editing? I'm used to 8. I just cannot manage to get the nodes to edit. Any thoughts??? |

Did you use the preset star and not the one made with the keystroke q? |

Hi Barbara...
No, actually I'm using elipse shapes that I need to work with for a 'vector cardinal' tut from zianet.com. Or any shape for that matter. I work with vectors alot and want to be able to do them in this version. I have Vista on my new PC and I hear that 8 is not compatible. Or 9 either. Right now, I have to go back into my old PC and do the vector stuff, then transfer it with a jump drive.
thanks |

I have 9 and 10 on my Vista program with no problems. Give this a try. Click on the keystroke p. That will open the shapes needed and select Ellipse. That should do it |

Thanks Barbara. I'll give it a try.
And I'll also get my daughter to send me back my disc for 9. I'm not real happy with x2 but would buy it if I have to. |
