Teaka]]> Thu, 22 Apr 2010 17:52:44 Teaka http://pspug.org/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl/Blah.pl?m-1235207982/ http://pspug.org/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl/Blah.pl?m-1235207982/#num1 Following up on the SLP-initiated Masks stuff, I finally made some "Easy Luminosity Masks" for PSP.  They're for working with photographs, mostly, though they can be applied to other graphics.  Unfortunately, the scripts I recorded for these work only in PSPX because Corel dumbed down the Curves tool (Adjust > Brightness & Contrast > Curves) in PSPX1 and hasn't smartened it up since.  

To see what luminosity masks are about, go to this article, find the photos in it, and read how one photo became the other.  The screenshots here show what one of my PSP LuMsks did to just the brightest parts of a photo.

The whites in this photo aren't blown out (except in the red channel, and even there, they're relatively few in number), but they don't look nice.  There are places that should be yellow that are very close to pure white.  So I used my "easy light-light-lights LuMsk" script, and those bright pixels don't make the histogram curve go off the chart anymore. The photo can have other things done to it, and I don't have to worry about pushing more lightness values up to 255. . . . . . . It turned out that this didn't save the photo.  I undid the luminosity mask and tried to fix the lightness of those yellow places with other PSP tools.  The results were not good.  The LuMsk did a better job much more quickly than I was able to without it.  So: they may not save every photo, but the easy PSP LuMsks work.  SLP has far-reaching consequences  .
