I removed one of your posts as it was a double post. You should be able to get a response here.

Have you installed the patches to bring your version up to 8.10? If not, you can download the patch from this link.

The procedure for setting up legacy Paint Shop Pro 8 to run on VISTA Premium:

-step 1- Right click on the desktop anywhere > select Personalize > Window Color and Appearance > change from Windows Aero to Windows Standard, click Apply, then OK.

One also should elevate the privilege to Run as Administrator. Go to Start > Local Disk (C > Program Files > Jasc Software Inc > Paint Shop Pro 8 > Paint Shop Pro.exe)

-step 2- Right click on Paint Shop Pro.exe, select Properties, click on the Compatibility tab.  In the Compatibility Mode area: put a check mark and select Run as Windows XP service pack 2: then under Privilege level put a check mark in the "Run as Administrator" box, click Apply then OK (wait).

When you next click the PSP shortcut icon, you will get the UAC (User Account Control) window, to which you reply Yes.  That is the way it has to be from now on, sorry.

There will be no more crash on crop, but the fancy transparent window treatment will be gone. You can change that feature back and forth (-step 1-) when you're not running PSP.
