Hi I got a new computer yesterday and got Vista Business. I had PSP x and the upgrade to PSPX1 I installed both the programmes, downloaded all the patches and the 6 DLLs and the plugins work just fine with PSPX but when i try a filter in PSPX1 the whole screen goes almost transparent and I get an error message saying that the programme is not working properly and it closes. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and nothing seems to work. Does anyone have any idea what I can try next? regards Lee-Anne
Off the top of my head, no. Until someone comes up with a solution for you please look through the PSP X1 thread to see if there is anything you can use there.

You didn't by any chance install in a protected folder did you? If so, uninstall, reboot, and install in a folder that is NOT protected. Or make your own folder, eg. C:\Graphics\ See if that helps.
You say you have PSPX and the upgrade to PSPX1, not the full program. The upgrade may be the problem. Since you have the code to use PSPX1 beyond the trial period, I suggest that you download a new copy of PSPX1 from the Corel site, apply all the patches for it, and see if that works. I hope so.

I had this same problem and it was driving me crazy. I did some searching and found the site of HaraldHeim "Plugin Guru" who explained alot and was a great help. It turned out the plugin that was crashing psp for me was not updated for VISTA and he directed me to a patch which fixed it. He also talked about the RAM issue and how to get around that. something about a DEP, but that was above my head. anyway here is the address to this great guru!!! hope it helps, probably won't help the person writing the question, but maybe someone else.
Thanks for posting that link to the thread on Harry's forum.
The thread linked to by sherri, above, identifies several aspects of the problems that Vista causes for PSP users when they try to use their plugins with PSP. One problem is (strangely) "caused" by having 2 GB of RAM on your computer. Another is caused by plugins that have not been updated to run with Vista (Mura Meister's will not work with Vista and will cause problems on a Vista computer if you try to use them, and no, Mura Meister's plugins will not be upgraded for Vista) (Xero's plugins won't work with Vista, either, but the Xero site has new versions of the plugins which do work with Vista, so go get them). And a third is caused by not excluding PSP from the Vista Data Execution Prevention (DEP) security program that comes with the newer MicroSoft operating systems, so users are advised to alter their DEP settings so that Windows does not shut down PSP because Windows "recognizes" PSP-running-some-plugins as some kind of malware.
Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, says: "Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is a security feature included in modern Microsoft Windows operating systems that is intended to prevent an application or service from executing code from a non-executable memory region. This helps prevent certain exploits that store code via a buffer overflow, for example. DEP runs in two modes: hardware-enforced DEP for CPUs that can mark memory pages as nonexecutable, and software-enforced DEP with a limited prevention for CPUs that do not have hardware support. Software-enforced DEP does not protect from execution of code in data pages, but instead from another type of attack (SEH overwrite). DEP was introduced in Windows XP Service Pack 2 and is included in Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 and later, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008, and all newer versions of Windows."
I've put all this stuff here hoping that a search about plugins, older PSP versions, Vista, and the problems when the three are combined will turn up this thread and the link above.PSP5, PSP6, PSP7, PSP8, PSP9, PSPX, PSPX1, plugins, filters, Vista, PSP stops working.
